Some time earlier, I met someone online and we became close to each other. 3-4 days ago, after a gap of sometime, we were talking again and things got in different direction and she initiated adult video call followed by me. Later she showed me a screen recording of the same to extort money or threaten put video on YouTube. I blocked her from everywhere in that instance and did not gave any money. But today, i received a call from someone claiming from YouTube care asking for money to delete video and also from someone claiming to be from cyber cell to do as this person asks. I haven't given in anything till now as I know it is all a scam now. But still need advice as what to do while keeping it low profile

A.Dear client,
You can lodge a complaint at the local police station. You can also file a lawsuit against that person.
Under section 384 of the Indian penal code punishment or extortion has been prescribed. A person committing such offence shall be punished with the imprisonment of 3 years or with fine or both.

A.Dear Client,
It's crucial to take these matters seriously and act prudently to protect your interests. Here are some steps you can consider:

Do Not Pay: As you rightly recognized, engaging with extortionists by paying money is typically not a recommended course of action. Paying them does not guarantee that they will delete any material or cease their extortion attempts, and it can encourage further harassment.

Document Evidence: Preserve any evidence of the extortion attempts, such as text messages, phone call records, or any communications you had with the individual. These records may be useful if you need to report the incident to the authorities.

Block and Report: Continue to block and report any suspicious or harassing individuals on the platforms you use. Ensure that your online profiles are secure and that your personal information is not readily accessible.

Do Not Share Personal Information: Avoid sharing any personal or sensitive information with the individuals involved, as this can be used against you.

Contact Local Authorities: If you feel that your safety is at risk or if you believe a crime has been committed, consider contacting your local law enforcement agency or cybercrime cell. They may be able to assist you in dealing with the situation.

Consult a Legal Professional: If you have concerns about potential legal implications, consider consulting with a legal professional who specializes in cybercrimes and online harassment. They can provide you with advice on how to protect your rights and handle the situation effectively.

Stay Vigilant: Be cautious when interacting with people online, and avoid engaging in risky or compromising situations. It's essential to protect your privacy and personal information.

Online Reputation Management: If you are concerned about the potential dissemination of compromising content, you may want to explore options for online reputation management or consulting with professionals who can help mitigate the impact on your online presence.

Remember that it's essential to take action to protect yourself and your personal information.
Thank you.
