A.Dear Client,
If you are required to submit your landlord's PAN (Permanent Account Number) for HRA (House Rent Allowance) exemption purposes, and your PG owner is refusing to provide it, you may need to take the following steps:

Request PAN Number: Politely request your PG owner to provide their PAN number. Explain that it is necessary for you to claim HRA exemption as per the tax regulations.

Offer to Share TDS: Assure your PG owner that providing their PAN number will not result in any tax deduction at source (TDS) for them. You can also explain that not providing the PAN may result in a higher TDS for you.

Show Legal Requirement: You can show your PG owner the legal requirement by providing them with a copy of the Income Tax Department's circular or guidelines that specify the need for the landlord's PAN for HRA exemption. This may help clarify the necessity.

Speak with HR/Accounts: If your PG owner still refuses, inform your HR or accounts department about the situation. They may have experience dealing with such issues and can provide guidance on how to proceed.

File Declaration: In some cases, you may be allowed to file a declaration stating that your landlord has not provided their PAN, and you may be subject to a higher TDS rate. Check with your HR or tax advisor to understand the procedure in your company.

Keep Records: Make sure to keep records of all communication with your PG owner regarding the PAN request. This may be useful if you need to explain the situation to your employer or the tax authorities.

Consult a Tax Advisor: If you face difficulties in obtaining your PG owner's PAN and are concerned about the impact on your taxes, it's advisable to consult a tax advisor or chartered accountant. They can provide specific guidance based on your circumstances and help you meet your tax obligations.

It's important to follow the legal requirements for claiming HRA exemption, but also try to maintain a positive and respectful communication with your PG owner to resolve the issue amicably.
Thank you.
