ITR intimation didn't acknowledge my payment ITR intimation didn't acknowledge my payment

I fileld ITR using online portal of income tax in July using online eform and was assessed tax of Rs. 55710 which I paid via a link provided in the online eform. Now in October, I have received intimation with a demand to pay Rs 57250. The computation of tax under US 143(1) is 55716 which is 6 rupees more but they are demanding 57250 which means they haven't acknowledged my payment - which is also showing under e-pay tax: payment history. How can I tell them to acknowledge my payment? I see an option to respond but there are sub options like open and without open challan etc. which is quite confusing. How can I pay what I actually pay i.e. Rs. 6 plus interest (whatever that may be)?

A.Dear,

If you have made a tax payment that is not being acknowledged by the Income Tax Department, you should take the following steps to resolve the issue:

Check Payment Status: Verify your payment status on the Income Tax e-filing portal. Ensure that you have paid the correct amount and that the payment has been successfully processed. You can do this by logging into your account on the e-filing portal.

Match Payment Details: Ensure that the details you provided when making the payment, such as your Permanent Account Number (PAN) and assessment year, match the information in your income tax return (ITR).

Payment Confirmation: If you have confirmed that your payment was successful and the details match, but it is not reflecting correctly in the intimation, you can proceed with the following:

a. Respond to Intimation: Log in to the Income Tax e-filing portal, go to "e-File" > "Response to Outstanding Tax Demand." Select the appropriate assessment year for which you received the intimation.

b. Choose the Correct Option: In your case, if the issue is related to acknowledging your payment, you should select "Correct Tax Credit Mismatch" or a similar option, depending on the wording provided.

c. Provide Details: Follow the steps to provide the required details, including the correct tax paid amount and any reference numbers related to your payment. You may need to upload supporting documents if necessary.

d. Submit Response: After filling out the response form, submit it electronically through the portal.

Wait for Processing: Once you have submitted your response, the Income Tax Department will review your submission. They will either acknowledge your payment or provide further instructions if needed.
