Police took my bike Police took my bike

Someone took the bike which was parked in front of my house gate. The key was left in the bike for just 5-10 minutes as my parent had to take the baby inside. After checking CC TV footage we came to know that Police took it. As we rushed to station police people did not give the bike back and told us to go to court or come tommorow. Also scolded us saying they are busy and we don't time for small things. Said there is a new law that we can take the bikes that in which the keys are left. But, how did the police exact came to my house which is a dead end road and saw the key and night 8:30 PM and took the bike to station. We understand about the safety concern and bike thefts due to negligence. But, the police made us stay for such long period in station and we felt very insulted in the station. Is there a law like this?

A.Dear Client,
No, there is no rule or right for the traffic police to take out the keys of the bike or take the bike to the police station for leaving the keys with the vehicle, the only rule is to check the respective documents ( RC, DRIVING LICENSE, POLLUTION, INSURANCE). If there are no supporting documents the person shall pay a fine and if he is unable to pay, then they have the right to take the bike to their custody at the police station and provide you with a challan and ask you to attend court. However, undergoing counseling followed by payment of the fine, the vehicle may be released from the police station. However, in case they misbehave with you in the Police Station, you can bring the matter to the notice of higher authority.
