A.Dear Client,
To make a marriage legally valid, essential conditions as laid down under Sec.5 of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 shall be met by the couple. Amongst others, both parties must be of legal age to marry. The bride must be at least 18 years old and the husband must be at least 21 years old at the time of the marriage. Once both partners reach marriageable age, they have the right to decide marriage independently on their own, any objection from anyone including parents is not maintainable. Mental harassment by parents following the proposed marriage may be represented before the Chairperson, Women's Commission and Human Rights Commission or an NGO rendered dedicated social service in the matter for resolving the issue. Sometimes proper counseling by an expert resolves the matter amicably.
