MARRIAGE CONTRACT

My father was in talks with a family for my marriage in March 2020. They along with the boy came to see me and immediately from that day started to pressurize my father for early marriage. Our marriage was supposedly fixed for November 2020 but only verbally. Both the families booked wedding venues in March only. But after speaking to the boy for 4 months I felt something was wrong and even my father sensed so. In the meantime I was depressed, suicidal since I did not want to marry this guy because he would just not communicate properly and which girl wants to willingly go in an unhappy marriage. Finally my father cancelled the proposed alliance. They tried to convince us but suddenly took a U Turn telling that who will now pay for their expenditure that they had incurred. They had messaged my father to write a letter acknowledging that it was us who cancelled this and they have no hand in it, sign the letter and to send it by postal or by mail. I want to know can they claim any money from us?
