Can I file a defamation case, if somebody inquired about my character in surrounding where i am living?
Because even if they have not directly said bad words about me, but their inquiry about my character has made others to feel doubtful about me. Other people now feel suspicious about me and they see at me with weird/suspicious looks.

So even they didn't say bad words directly to anybody, they inquired about my character and hence those people also now think in negative way about my character. Hence, can a defamation suit be filed against the people who inquired about my character?

There is nothing wrong i did, so nobody can proof anything wrong about my character.

A.A defamatory statement can be made in any format. Stating incorrect things which damage your reputation is exactly what defamation is.

Under Section 499, 500 IPC these actions can be taken.
