HELLO My questions are (1) Is prostitution legal in India? (2) Are escorts or call girls legal in India? (3) If not legal, punishment for it and please give me section and law for it. Also please refer to this site https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escort_agency. Please refer to legal considerations in it.I am really confused. Please help. Thanks.

A.Prostitution in the sense of running a brothel is illegal, so is pimping. But individual consensual sex is not illegal, whether it is for money or for free. If prostitution is prohibited how red light areas are alive in major north Indian cities, how girls are giving their ad s in websites.?

A.Prostitution in India is ILLEGAL in any form, just get it right to your deepest corner of your head. Escorts are just a façade to say that they provide services for social conversation and company but the moment there is any sexual overtone they become illegal. Now in Indian social, economic and business scenario you do not need to have an unknown female (sometimes male too) for a business discussion so, presumption is that escorts are being used to serve and sell sex. Under that pretext and understanding escort services are illegal. Call girls, call them by any name, if they are selling sex they are doing illegal activity and will certainly be booked under the law.
Now if you are so desirous of knowing everything about these kind of crime and laws to the minutest level I would suggest you better hire a lawyer and seek in depth legal opinion in writing.
That Wikipedia link detail on India is wrong.
