A.Dear Sir,
Try for your proposed option if not agreed pay the amount and avoid criminal prosecution.
As per law, it is illegal to send currency notes and coins by mail or courier service. Courier services such as DTDC, DHL, FedEx etc will check for the presence of money in their packages. If found, they won't allow it to be shipped and will ask the sender to remove such items.

A.Hi,
There certain limitations as to the goods that can be transferred and currency items which are legal tender money in circulation certainly are not allowed to be transferred. Since, you had no idea regarding it then perhaps you may escape liability. However, if you want the goods then you can directly pay the fine.
If you find my answer helpful then kindly rate me.

A.Whenever the goods are confiscated by an adjudicating authority, if these are not prohibited goods, an option is to be given to the party as per Section 125 of the Customs Act, to pay a fine known as ‘redemption fine’ of quantum as the adjudicating authority deems fit, in lieu of the confiscation and that gives you an option to pay the fine and take the goods and the confiscated items. So, by paying the fine you can take all those items including the cash. Since none of the items are prohibited so there will be no case against you and you will be free to use them without any liability in future.
Please be aware that prohibited goods can be confiscated absolutely without giving you any option to pay penalty and redemption.
