Landlord not returning security deposit Landlord not returning security deposit

I missed paying rent for a month and continued paying all rent and dues for subsequent months. After 9 months, while doing his taxes he found out this miss and informed us. We paid the missing rent immediately.

Now after 6 months, when we left his house, he is refusing to give back the security deposit as he says he has cut 500rs per day for delayed rent.

He had never mentioned that he will charge penalty for delayed rent at the time when he informed us about the miss 6 months back, and not even when we gave him one month deposit.

It was written in the rent agreement. But the clause is vague. It says 500 rs per day till date of payment. My next date of payment was 27 days later when I paid next month's rent

A.Dear Client,
Since the penalty for delay in rent is mentioned in the agreement, in this situation, I will have to go through the rent agreement to give any advice.
Thank you

A.Dear Sir,
It has become common practice for the land owners to do like that. To fight legally you need more money as such you may think twice whether to proceed or not.

A.To give opinion, it is necessary to scrutinize the terms, conditions and default clauses of that Tenancy Agreement for its scope, meaning and effect as it is binding upon both the Landlord and the tenant.
