Sales agreement of land

I had made a legal agreement with my cousin brother for selling my land to him, for which he had given a token advance of 5L, on the same day we got to know the price which he is quoting to buy the land was not even close to the Market price, hence we decided to return back his money and cancel the agreement, he cheated us by taking colour print of agreement and tore the agreement in front of us after taking the Money back saying it is original. Now after an year he has sent a notice claiming he hasnt received any amount from us as per the agreement nor the land was registered to him
Kindly advise the best way to get rid of this issue legally
