Defamation case against me

I wrote on my Whatsapp status for 12 hours regarding a builder’s ill intention regarding some issue and it was visible only to limited contacts including the builder management. They have sent me a legal notice and asking me to compensate the builder by giving 5,00000000 ( 5 cr) ( defamation case) !!! Am i to respond to the legal notice ? Can they use my whatsapp status against me ? Its not even a public platform.

Anything sent on whatsapp which harms the reputation can definitely come under purview of defamation. A defamation legal notice is also a warning before dragging the matter to the court. Therefore no reply to legal notice for defamation can result in more harm.
Better to take the notice to a lawyer and ask him to write a reply where he should tell that 5 crore is exorbitant and nobody will be willing to pay.
