A.As a buyer when you are going to buy a car through an auction sale, you need to verify the present status of the documents of the said car either from the auctioner or from the owner of the said car. Now you want to transfer the ownership of the said car in your name that involve statutory compliance of procedure as prescribed under Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Rules, 1989. There are statutory forms to be signed both by ex-owner and present owner to process the transfer of ownership of the vehicle.
You may reach out to the office of concerned RTO or meet any vendor who involved motor vehicles job to access the details online regarding the Certificate of Registration(RC) and status of Road Tax in r/o said vehicle and take a print out of the details maintained by NIC. In case you found everything okay, you may contact the ex-owner and ask him to comply his statutory formalities required for transfer of the vehicle in your name. As per Act, once a vehicle is sold, purchaser has to submit statutory forms and other required documents within 30 days to the concerned RTO for processing transfer of ownership.

A.Dear Sir,
Each RTO office is having its own check list. Just walk-in to the concerned RTO office and be friendly with RTO staff and get your work done.
