Is it possible to take a passport for my child as a single mother.
A.Dear client,
The Karnataka High Court gave a single mother relief by ordering the Passport authorities to assess her minor son's passport application without the agreement of her estranged spouse. A provision in the Passport Manual ordering the single parent to acquire authorization from, according to a single-judge bench led by Justice M Nagaprasanna. If both parents are not available, Annexure D should be submitted by the legal guardian when filing for the minor's passport.

A.Dear Madam,
Unless you possess judicial separation or divorce or any other legal document to have exclusive custody of the child, you may not get passport for your child as a single mother.

A.Dear Client,
In the year 2016, the Ministry of External Affairs finally passed new rules meant to ease the passport application process. The new rules state that the name of only one parent is enough. This new passport rules come a few months after the Delhi High Court ruled in 2016 that single mothers can apply for passports for their children without the father's signature. There's no such demand regarding the mother's signature from single fathers — it's only for the ladies. Further, recently, the Karnataka High Court granted relief to a single mother by ordering the Passport authorities to consider her minor son’s passport application without requiring the consent of her estranged husband. According to a single-judge bench led by Justice M Nagaprasanna a provision in the Passport Manual directing the single parent to obtain permission from. Annexure D should be submitted by the legal guardian while applying for the minor's passport if both parents are not available.
