A.Dear Client,
Young girls depend on their fathers for security and emotional support. Biological fathers may have the financial responsibility of paying for various items the child needs as he or she grows up which can include caretaking, providing for a child's needs, nurturing, education, and financial support. Under Section 20(3) of the Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act, 1956, an unmarried Hindu daughter can claim maintenance from her father till she is married provided, she pleads and proves that she is unable to maintain herself. the right given to an unmarried daughter under Section 20 of the Act to claim maintenance from her father when she is unable to maintain herself is an absolute and is a right granted under personal law, which can be enforced by her against her father. When you are not getting moral and financial support from your father who is a public servant to pursue higher studies to build up a good career in life, before going into litigation, you may represent your plight before the Chairperson, of the National Commission for Women who is empowered to investigate complaints related to issues faced by women/girl under distress by sending an email to [email protected] or filing an online complaint. Further, you can also approach the State Commission of Women situated in your state, and ask them for help.
