My college has withheld my documents and refuses to return them. I wanted to drop out within 2 months of admission but they are demanding fees for the complete course duration for producing the documents.

A.Dear Client,
Here are steps you can take to address this situation:

Review College Policies: Start by reviewing the college's policies and regulations regarding withdrawals and document retention. Check if there are any specific rules regarding the return of documents and fee refund policies.

Communicate with College: Contact the college administration, preferably in writing (email or formal letter), explaining your situation and your intention to withdraw from the course early. Request clarification on their policies and the basis for demanding fees for the entire course duration.

Document Everything: Keep records of all communication with the college, including emails, letters, and any responses you receive. These records may be important if the matter escalates.

Consult College Ombudsman or Grievance Cell: Many colleges have ombudsmen or grievance cells that handle student complaints and disputes. Inquire if your college has such a mechanism and seek assistance in resolving the issue through this channel.

Seek Legal Advice: If the college continues to withhold your documents and demands fees unreasonably, you may need to seek legal advice from an attorney who specializes in education law or consumer protection. They can review your case and advise you on legal remedies available to you.

Consumer Forums: In some cases, you may have the option to approach a consumer protection forum or authority if you believe you are being treated unfairly or if the college is violating consumer rights.

Mediation: Mediation can be a less adversarial way to resolve disputes. You may consider mediation if both parties are willing to participate and negotiate a resolution.

Regulatory Authorities: If the college's actions appear to be in violation of higher education regulations or policies, you can contact relevant regulatory authorities in your jurisdiction to seek their assistance or guidance.

Remember that the specific steps and options available to you may vary based on your location and the college's policies.
Thank you.
