Does a Foundation need to be registered in India

Does a Not-For-Profit Foundation that does not accept any external donations have to be registered under any act in India?
A.Dear Client,
A non-profit making organization or non-government organization(NGO) is required to be registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 to carry out its social activities even without any external donation and to achieve its objectives as appears in its memorandum of association and regulations. A society or NGO without registration under the Act is not considered a body of association or legal entity and has no locus standi to sue or be sued. Further, in the absence of registration, a society or NGO is not qualified to take part in any social schemes run by the government for the upliftment of people or citizens belonging to a marginal category or EWS category of the Society. For the smooth running of any social organization, registration under the relevant Act is necessary to regulate its activities and to make it accountable for any irregularities, if happen in the course of carrying out social activities.

A.Dear client,
These groups associated with social development and welfare can work as an NGO without registration, i.e., NGOs can run with or without getting registered. However, NGOs registered by registration authorities of government can avail financial support.
