Actually on the 30th of June I had a verbal conversation with my uncle and I hurled him some abuses and personal remarks.
He claims that he will file a case against me for defamation. Is it possible for him to do that based on a private whats app conversation .

It is very difficult to succeed in such cases. First let him go to the Court.

It is highly unlikely that he can file such a suit that would be maintainable in the court against you solely on the whatsapp conversation between you both.
However, it also depends on what exactly you have said to him for eg. Threatening, extortion etc, such statements can invite a police complaint against you but not a civil suit.

Have apologised ever since on same chat . But he claims he will show chat in court to prove I defamed him.

Don't worry then. He can't use it in court or elsewhere. In fact if he does, he is committing defamation.
