Rent bill Dispute Rent bill Dispute

Dear Sir/Madam,
We are a travel company startup in Siliguri. During 2019 we had taken a office space on rent from West Bengal Electronics Industry Development Corporation Limited (WBEIDC Ltd - govt. entity). We had paid all the bills on time except few disputed electricity bills which were being overcharged in spite of electric meter problem.

The travel, tourism and hospitality industry has been decimated by the impact of the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak during 2020 which has caused serious financial difficulties to me and my family.

I had tried reaching to WBEIDC Ltd. since lockdown was declared. Due to my financial hardship, I had requested WBEIDC to consider my rents and asked for an settlement but didn’t received any favourable response. In spite of my financial hardship, I had arranged a sum of INR 42015 from creditors which was paid along with the surrender letter.

Now WBEIDC Ltd is asking to pay all the rents along with the disputed electricity bills. Please guide.

A.Hi,
You can state your grievances in Court and pray for the appropriate relief. If WBEIDC is Government-run, you can file a writ petition in the High Court against them. You can also try mediation or arbitration to request them tor restructure your repayment plan.

A.Hi,
You can approach the Court and state your grievances as you have suffered genuine hardship during lockdown. You can request for an extension to repay; the fact that you already paid 40,000 shows your good faith and willingness to repay.
