Competetive Exam

The exam is scheduled in May 2021 (UGC-NET). Online applications starts from Feb 2, 2021 to March 2, 2021. I have applied for Economically Weaker Section certificate on Feb 4, 2021 and received it on Feb 17, 2021. It is showing "the certificate is valid for the year 2020-2021. Does it mean that the certificate is valid only for financial year 2020-2021 which ends on March 31, 2021. Or the certificate is valid for one year from the date of issue? State is Telangana. The notification does not mention anything about whether the certificate should be valid during the certificates verification after you quality the exam or it should be valid during or till the end date of the online application.
You may apply and then go the High Court if it is rejected.

They might have granted you last year's certificate because your income for this year has not yet been disclosed. As such, you will fall within the economically weaker status and the certificate granted will serve as proof of the same.

There must be some error in the application. If you only applied for it in 2021, they cannot backdate it from 2020. You will need to ask them to grant you the certificate for the financial year 2021-22.
However, as this is a mere declaration of your economic status, the year shouldn't have too much effect, and the status granted to you because of it will remain the same.
