Can I be sued for fraud case or copyright case?
I wrote some article for a small company (not on any freelancing site). I have not a single signed contract with that company. They asked me to take news from other sites and rewrite them. I had to provide screenshots that my content had no grammar errors and plagiarsim which I provided in all of my contents.
The company took those and escalated to there client (I never have any idea who the client is or what they do). Thing were going on like these for 3-4 months. Days ago, the client published an article which I wrote and his site is gone because of DMCA rule (as he said) and he faced a loss.
Now, he wants to sue the company and me.
My question is if I am liable here by any means. If my content was flawed, the company's editor could have sent it back to me or terminated me. But they sent them to the client i. e. they approved those writings. The client also could send those back. But he published them i. e. he also approved those writing. That's why he published it.
Suddenly now, how can I be answerable for this? I didn't even know what they do with those articles. The client claimed their plag-checker shows it has many plag content (my plag checker is free version and different from them).
My question is : 1. Can they sue me by any means? 2. There was no paperwork but can they sue me framing me fraud? Because, even verbally, the instruction was to take a news and rewrite it (content will be the same).
A.Dear Sir,
You are not liable since you have just shared the article as per their instructions and you have several defences to take.
They can sue you for the damages they faced. As you did the work, you can be made liable. However, it is most likely that the company will get sued as they had told you to do this and were alright with it. The liability also falls on the client as they did not check the content accurately before using it.
Thank you
