Q. Correction of Name in Marriage Certificate

Hi Sir/Madam,

I got married in March 2018. I received a marriage certificate with an incorrect name. What is the procedure to correct my name in the marriage certificate? I have an affidavit showing my new name. I also, have a newspaper ad supporting the same. Please suggest.

A. Dear Balla Varshini Sushma,
Please go to the same Office where you had registered your marriage and bring the mistake to the notice of the Officer and ask for correction. They will do the same and show all the documents you have prepared in the meantime.
This is very simple.

A. Sir file a Confirmation deed, confirmation deeds are also known as correction deeds. They are entered into between parties to rectify any errors made in a previous deed. These errors may include typing error, misspelt name, error in property description, or any other error in execution of the documents. These mistakes can be later corrected through a deed of confirmation.

Does this apply to my case as well or just for correction in property related registrations?

A. Is your name on the marriage certificate not matching with the name that you provided in the application and the supporting document that you gave along with it?
If yes the visit the Marriage Registrar and ask him to make the correction and he/she shall do it.

My name is Varshini Sushma, I did not have a surname before wedding. The registrar probably considered Varshini as my surname and waived it off. Now correction is taking a lot of time. I got married in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh. We have received the marriage certificate from the same place. I have an affidavit with my new name prefixed with my husband's surname and newspaper ad supporting the same.
