Police came to my house saying this guy who was living in your flat murdered someone 4 days prior to leaving your flat.
I've rented my flat to a person who has a family of 4, Husband wife , son daughter. I applied for his police verification and get rent agreement done. After 15 days of renting house, I got to know that he is not living instead his son & daughter were living only. I took aadhar card of both and checked that father name is not matching for that girl, so I applied for her police verification. And asked them to vacate the house. They vacate the house when their month end. I take in writing from them that they have vacated the house on this date but a few days later police came with a guy saying , he has murdered someone and has resided in your flat after the murder. I've never seen that guy. Police personnel said that your tenant is accomplice in this murder and his son too is involved. They enquired us, we provided them rent agreement, police verification online application receipt, aadhar of tenant. Police asked us to come to police station very next day. They gave us crpc 160 notice. We visited the police station but IO of the case was asking questions as if we were involved in all this and he was trying to frame us as accused, lateef on her let us go. I want to know on what grounds he can trouble us in future ?

A.Dear Client,

Accusations of being involved in a murder might seem frightening, but it is important to keep a calm and collected mind and cooperate with the investigation.

As the landlord of the accused accomplice, you are a witness that the police can call upon to draw out further details about the accomplice. The best way to prove your innocence is to not be a hostile witness and provide the police with accurate answers to questions they ask.

However, if during the course of investigation the police turn aggressive and you feel the need to get legal counsel, connect with an advocate.

Thank you
