I am a master's student, basically masters is a two year course. But it's my fourth year in the degree, my advisor is continuously humiliating and torturing me mentally. I have completed all the requirements of my degree, but she is not letting me complete my degree. She wants me to do extra lab work which has to do nothing with my degree, please tell me the solution.

A.Dear Client,

Departmental Support: If the situation with your advisor doesn't improve after discussing your concerns, you could consider reaching out to your department's chair or another faculty member who is in a position to mediate or provide advice. They might be able to offer insights or assistance.

University Ombudsman or Mediation Services: Many universities have ombudsman offices or mediation services that provide confidential assistance for resolving conflicts. They can act as neutral parties and help facilitate communication between you and your advisor to find a resolution.

Academic Advising Office: Reach out to your university's academic advising office or graduate student services for advice and support. They might be able to guide you on the proper steps to take in your specific situation.

Document Everything: Keep a detailed record of any interactions, emails, or incidents related to your advisor's behavior. This documentation could be valuable if you need to escalate the situation.

Seek Additional Supervision: If your advisor is unwilling to cooperate and your department is unresponsive, inquire if it's possible to switch advisors or co-advisors. This could provide you with a fresh start and the guidance you need.

Appeal to Higher Authorities: If all else fails, you might need to escalate the matter to higher university authorities, such as the dean of the college or the graduate school. They can intervene and help ensure that your concerns are addressed appropriately.
thank you

A.Dear Client,
If your advisor insists on the extra lab work day after day that does not relate to or come under the purview of your course curriculum, then you need to first raise your objection politely with the advisor failing which bring the matter to the notice of the course coordinator or the principal of the college or dean of the University for redressal of grievance.
