A.Dear Client,
There is no prohibition in the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, and the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989 against installation of luggage carriers atop private four-wheelers to carry luggage of passengers of that vehicle. There is no requirement to take prior permission for installing the carrier either. Installation of carriers is completely legal irrespective of the type of car you are driving down the road.

In India, the installation of a carrier or luggage rack on a car with limited boot space is generally allowed, but there are specific regulations and guidelines set by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) that you should adhere to. Here are some key points to consider:

RTO Approval: Before installing a carrier, you should check with your local RTO to ensure that they allow such modifications. Each RTO may have slightly different rules and procedures, so it's essential to be aware of the specific requirements in your area.

Load Capacity: The carrier should have a load capacity that is within the permissible limits set by the RTO. Overloading a carrier can lead to safety hazards and legal issues.

Proper Installation: The carrier should be securely and properly installed on the vehicle to ensure it does not pose a risk to other road users or the vehicle's occupants. It's advisable to have the carrier installed by a qualified professional.
