Data entry legal notice
Hello sir/ma'am
I've recently got an offer for online data entry (form-filling) job and they asked me to share a copy of aadhar, a passport size photo and my signature for verification after sending those thing they call me for confirmation from verification department asking me if I agree to the terms and conditions of the company to which said yes and they shared me an agreement stating that if I'm unable to complete the work on time then I'll have to pay the penalty charged of 3999 (the work was to complete 1200 forms within 12 days) ( the company name on the agreement was M/s. techcart data solutions. And the website name is DataEdge.live) but they later send me an email with login details to start the work and I did completed a little work on the website but I found it difficult and moreover they asked me a penalty fee it felt off to me, so I did some research on the company the but i didn't got to find any such company on the address they provided me (The address was:- Madhya pradesh, bhopal, 7-sector) and I also checked the website details on WHOIS and found that the website was registered on 29-09-2023 and will expire on 29-09-2024 then I contacted their help department through email [email protected] and then their number 9405873256 and started my doubts but the lady on the call started scolding me that we've already provided all the information to you and if you want to cancel your work then pay 3999 penalty charges and 3500 agreement charges and I refused to do so. I got the same thing on email reply too, and I refused to pay the charges again. But yesterday I got a call from another woman asking me to pay the charges for not completing the work or else legal action will be taken against me. She sent me the case details on WhatsApp stating to pay the penalty right now or else we're going to file a case against you. I asked her to give me some time but she refused and said that an FIR copy with legal notice will be send to your address and you will then have to pay 35000 to 40000 for legal notice and FIR. I took the screenshots of the conversation and blocked the number. But I'm worried that if a real notice will be send to my address or not because I'm still a student and I can't afford paying the money to complaint about it in cyber crime or hire a lawyer. Please help me by answering this query that what will happen next, am I really going to receive any legal notice or should I just forget about it. And If I do receive any legal notice then what should I do next?
This kind of online data entry/part-time jobs is being offered and operated by Fraudster companies/entities to extort money from unemployed youths. So, on receipt of such an unethical and arbitrary demand from such type of Company, just ignore it because the nature of demands itself proves their ulterior motives behind the offer. However, on receipt of repeated calls or messages/emails demanding money for different purposes or threatening legal action, then make a complaint(GD) against the said Company at the local police station with whatever papers/documents or digital evidence you have and serve a legal notice enclosing a copy of the police complaint(GD) informing them that you are contemplating filing a criminal suit against the Company for cheating and criminal intimidation u/s.415 and 503 of IPC. Hopefully, the matter may stand resolved thereafter. In case the matter is not resolved then consult with an Advocate for guidance and steps.
Firstly, it's important to note that this situation appears to be a common online scam. Legitimate companies don't usually demand payment for penalties in such an aggressive manner. Since you've blocked the number and have screenshots of the conversation, you've taken a step to protect yourself.
In all likelihood, you won't receive any genuine legal notice. These scammers often use intimidation tactics to extract money from individuals who have fallen prey to their schemes. If you receive any communication, especially if it's a legal notice, do not panic.
In the event you do get any such notice, do not make any payments. Instead, consult with a legal professional or approach the cybercrime cell in your local police station to report the incident. Always be cautious about sharing personal information online, and refrain from engaging in activities that seem suspicious or demand money upfront for employment.
For now, focus on safeguarding your personal information and ignore any further communication from these individuals. It's highly unlikely that they will pursue any genuine legal action, considering the nature of the situation.
Thankyou
