A.Dear Client,

Marking students absent when they are physically present in the class, especially if done systematically for all students, can be considered an abuse of power by a teacher or lecturer. This practice undermines the accuracy of attendance records and may have consequences for students, such as affecting their grades or attendance-related policies.

Whether it falls under the jurisdiction of a Human Rights Commission complaint depends on the laws and regulations in your specific location. In many cases, issues related to education and academic conduct are typically handled within the educational institution itself, following its policies and procedures.

If you believe that the teacher's actions are unjust and are adversely affecting the students, you may consider taking the following steps:

1. Internal Complaint Process:
- Check if your educational institution has an internal complaint or grievance redressal process. This might involve reporting the issue to higher authorities within the institution.

2. Department Head or Administration:
- Bring the matter to the attention of the department head or relevant administrative authorities within the institution.

3. Student Ombudsman or Mediation Services:
- Some institutions have student ombudsman services or mediation services to address disputes and conflicts. Explore these options if available.

4. Human Rights Commission (if applicable):
- If the actions of the teacher are severe and violate human rights as defined by local laws, you may explore the possibility of filing a complaint with the Human Rights Commission. Review the commission's mandate and guidelines to determine if your case falls within their jurisdiction.

Before proceeding, it's crucial to understand the specific rules and regulations of your educational institution and the legal framework in your region. Seeking guidance from a student counselor, advisor, or legal professional can provide you with more accurate advice tailored to your situation.
