I am a Muslim woman who married in 1999. Having two major children 23 and 21. Right now Indian government is supporting Muslim women to punish the husbands who are doing polygamy. I want to punish my husband for his polygamy. Tell me the ways how can I start this action. should I go to the police station first or directly to the family court?

A.Dear Client,

This legislation in India acknowledges polygamy for Muslim men. According to this law, a Muslim man is legally allowed to have up to four wives simultaneously, following the principles outlined in the Quran. However, it is a requirement that he possesses the ability to treat all his wives with fairness and justice. In cases where this equality is not maintained, an aggrieved wife has the option to seek divorce under the Dissolution of Muslim Marriages Act, 1939.

A.Dear Client,
This law validates polygamy for Muslim men in India. A Muslim man can legally have up to 4 wives at a time, as granted by the Quran. However, he must have the capacity to treat all wives equally and justly. If not, the aggrieved wife can seek divorce under the Dissolution of Muslim Marriages Act, 1939. Reach out to an Advocate for guidance and steps.
