Domestic violence at home by father Domestic violence at home by father

Hi I'm 19years old and I want to runaway from home. My father is very toxic,he thinks that someone has done black magic on me and he is very cruel. He has destroyed my mental health and emotional health. He is a head constable in Karnataka police department and he is very clever. I had swallowed poison 2times but unfortunately I lived. Once I had runaway from home, then chased by some men so had to come back home. Because of my father, I'm under medication for anxiety and depression since 2years.I did complaint to DSP of Tumkur district about all this but as my father is a police man, he managed to convince the DSP that I am mad. I was a brave girl but now I don't have any strength to survive. I don't know what to do. I'm nowadays planning to jump off from terrace but I want to live somewhere else with peace and I don't want my parents. I don't want to stay with them. I'm really very very tiered and failed to support myself. I know Nobody will help. All this human rights , police, child welfare, women welfare, etc. are all just show off.

A.Dear Client,

Many individuals face similar situations within their households nationwide, indicating a prevalent issue rather than an isolated incident. If financially reliant on a father, leaving home might not seem feasible, but there's no legal obligation for the father to provide maintenance once the child is an adult. Seeking an independent income is essential for autonomy. If subjected to harassment or violence, one can file a complaint with local police under Section 12 of the PWDV Act, 2005. Additionally, complaints can be lodged online with the National Human Rights Commission, State Human Rights Commission, National Commission for Women, and State Commission for Women. Seeking assistance from local NGOs and the State Commission of Women is also advisable for support in such distressing situations.

A.Dear Madam,
Since you attained the age of majority as such you may find out some source of income for your maintenance and stay away from your father. Intimation may be sent to local Police Station and a copy of DSP and SP for information.

A.Dear Client,
This type of attitude is common among homes across the country hence it is not an isolated incidence. If you are economically dependent on your father you may not have any choice other than remain in the same house and continue with your life. If you feel you can manage outside without the support of your father for all your needs, nothing prevents or restricts you from walking out of your home to look for the destiny of your choice. You cannot legally compel your father to maintain you as you are an adult. Therefore, you need to arrange for an independent source of income to live your life on your own terms. You have the right to file a complaint against your father if he mentally and physically harassed or subjected you to domestic violence in the local police station under Sec.12 of the PWDV Act, 2005. Apart from this, you can make a complaint online (https://nhrc.nic.in/complaints/complaints/how-to-file-a-complaints) to the Chairperson, the National Human Rights Commission, New Delhi and the State Human Rights Commission along with the Chairperson, National Commission for Women and State Commission for Women who are empowered to investigate complaints related to issues faced by women by sending an email to [email protected] or filing an online complaint. Further, you can also approach the State Commission of Women situated in your state, and seek help from the NGOs who rendered dedicated service to the women in distress.
