I made a comment to a post on a person's self facebook wall on 13.04.2024. My comment on the post was defamatory for the said person. Although my comment was true but it can be proved by documentary evidence. I deleted my comment within one hour considering that such adverse comment on social media is unlawful. Although my comment was deleted but the said person may have kept its screen shot. My question is in such situation may he initiate defamation suit u/s 499 of IPC against me ? And will such case be tenable at law ?

It is too remote to initiate defamation case as Indian courts not encouraging such cases. You just ignore the same whenever you receive any court notice then think over it and by going to High court it can be quashed easily.

In a civil defamation case, a person who is defamed can move to either the High Court or subordinate courts and seek damages in the form of monetary compensation from the accused under Section 499 of the India Penal Code.
