Two flats constructed one unit

I bought two flats in my name and my mother's name in the year 2003. These flats were constructed as one unit but all the legal documents pertaining to the flats are in two names. Our apartment takes maintenance charge as the number of flats.
My question is - we should give maintenance charges for two flats or should pay for a single unit?

If it is the single unit you should then pay the maintainenece charges for single unit only and if it two then it shoukd be paid for both the units.
