COPYRIGHT

Hi Everyone, We are a group of college students ( around 200 students) who requires books, which are highly priced in the market, so as a solution to that we decided to take the Xerox copies of the books which would lead to cost reduction of around 50% and provide the Xerox copies internally in our college. So can the copyright issue be raised by the author of this books?...as we are selling it internally within the college ( Note: we are students and we do not own any business nor any shop)

Copyright shall not attract until and unless you are making any sort of profit. The whole purpose is bonafide to reduce cost and get better education served by price reduction by way of which you are getting the book xeroxed and imparting knowledge of the same by xerox copies.
However if you are earning any profit from the same, it shall be chargeable and come under the purview of copyright.

It is not illegal as long as you do so strictly for academic purposes. If you sell the material for profit, then it is illegal.
