Water leakage from pipes inside walls and seepage into floor below Water leakage from pipes inside walls and seepage into floor below

One of our pipes in Kitchen inside walls recently burst and flooded out kitchen which inturn seeped into the ceiling of the lower floor . But as we donot stay at that place the leakage was not known by us and when we knew the lower floor flat's ceiling was already damaged. So after two months we are able to go now back home to repair the damage completely. Before we shut down the pipe that was leaking water temporarily but couldn't completely repair as we were unable to go physically to tend to the situation. Now the floor below flat owner is impatient and asking for legal compensation for his new decorated ceiling damage. Are we liable for their decorated ceiling or just repairing our floor to stop any further leakage ?

A.Dear client,
If the leakage is not your fault, then the expenses to stop/repair the leakage has to be borne equally by your neighbour and you as per law.
