Regularisation fee demanded for Approved Flat Regularisation fee demanded for Approved Flat

I bought an 8-year-old flat on the first floor of Land Marvel Apartments in a good locality in Chennai. The building has 6 flats in total, 2 each on the first, second and third floors. I had decided to withdraw from buying the flat when I found out that 1 flat each on the second and third floors don't have approval. But my lawyer assured me that my flat on the first floor had approval and I would not face any problems. Now the resident owners are demanding that I pay a hefty share of the regularisation fee before today evening, citing that it is a mandatory deadline by the government. Why should I pay anything here when my flat has complete approval? Would appreciate the advice.
