Ancestral property
I belong to a joint family. We have an ancestral pond which is right now in the name of my grandfather's father. Do I have any right on that pond?
A.If you have the relevant documents regarding the concerned pond belonging to your great grand father, and documents to prove that you are one of his legal heir , then you have right on that pond.

A.Hi,
Your grandfather and his siblings will have the current rights over the property.
On his death, this right will transfer to your father and it is only after this that you will receive a legal claim over the same.
Yes, you do have a right to use the pond, so long as your use does not adversely affect the others' interests.

A.Hi,
You will have a right over the same only after the expiry of your father and grandfather. Until then, the legal rights would rest with the living legal heirs. However, as a member of the joint family, you have a right to use the pond as long as your use of the same is not detrimental to the other members' interests.
