VALIDITY OF RENT PAID TO RENT CONTROLLER

We are paying our rent to the rent controller. The owner of the house sold the house to another person. We are still continuing to pay the rent to the rent controller. Now can the new owner ask me to evict as the rent paid to the rent controller is in the name of the previous owner?
