Claim ownership on property by paying property tax Claim ownership on property by paying property tax

I plan to buy house from an NRI. His relative who takes care of the property warns me not to buy it as he pays property/house tax on his name. I don't know he got tax bills on his with out house being transferred on his name. He threatens me with legal troubles using these tax bills. He has no sale deed on his name. May I go ahead and buy the property from the NRI? Can he really create troubles with the tax bills and claim ownership?

A.Dear Client
If the relative has got the tax bills in his name it means that he has (fraudulently) got his name recorded with for mutation. You need to be careful while buying this property as this might end into a litigation. Clear all doubts and issues before venturing into this.
