Divorce after 15+ years of separation Divorce after 15+ years of separation

I am a 52 year old hindu woman and have been separated from my husband for over 15 years after my husband moved overseas during which time I have had no interaction with him. In his absence, I have borne all living expenses for myself as well as living and education expenses for my daughter. I want to check if I need to formally finalize a divorce in India in order to (a) ensure that my husband can not lay claim to my property / inheritance and (b) legally change my name back to my maiden name

A.Dear Madam,
It is better to get legal divorce by filing a divorce case in India and see that ex-parte divorce decree is drawn in your favour to protect your properties.
