Extension of window grill in chawl housing Extension of window grill in chawl housing

I wanted to know if putting a 1.5 feet grill for my window is allowed in malad west, Mumbai? There is a kaccha Private road outside my ground floor house. And the house above me has an extension of 2feet+ towards the road. All other houses on the ground floor in the area have extended their houses by 2 feet. I just want to put a 1.5 feet box grill for my windows. For plants and drying clothes. Is there a set BMC law against this?

A.Hi,
Yes, you can extend the window grill and get it fixed. Law does not restrict it. But it shouldn't restrict the way for the passengers on the road. Thank You

A.Hi,
Law does not restrict putting grills on the windows, but as a precautionary measure, it has been stated by the National Building code that they should be openable so that they don't block the escapes in case of fire hazards. Also, the grill shouldn't restrict the way on the road. Thank You

A.No. There is no set BMC law against this. But your grill should not hinder the passage walking for the pedestrians or taking any household items inside the chawl room like cupboard, fridge etc.
