Sister-in-law threatning if not given hefty amount and house in alimony Sister-in-law threatning if not given hefty amount and house in alimony

My brother and sister-in-law were staying in a jointly owned flat in Noida. They have a marriage of around 7 years and have a 3 years old son. My sister-in-law has very violent nature and she has been abusing my family especially mother-in-law since the beginning of the marriage. My brother is running a business which is in 50-50% partnership with his wife. Eventually my brother could not endure more abuses and harassment and he moved out of his flat and started staying in a rented apartment. My sister-in-law still makes uninformed visits to his office just to fight and abuse him. Now she has asked for an amount of 50 lacs, complete ownership of the flat and custody of the child and she wants to do it outside court proceedings. My brother is losing his motivation by the day as he is staying alone in noida whereas his in-laws stay in noida only who aren't helping at all. What action should we take?

A.Dear Client

If your sister-in-law's behavior has crossed the line into criminal behavior, such as physical assault or harassment, your brother could file a police complaint. The police can investigate the matter and take appropriate action. If not, I will advise you to consider mediation as an alternative to court proceedings. This could help in reaching an agreement with his wife on the division of property, custody of the child and other related matters. Please seek an expert legal advise on family law matters.
